Get the Idea?

One of the most effective style of getting the paragraph's main idea is to know first the topic sentence. Finding the topic sentence leads you to the main idea of the article. In my case, I first look at the title of the article. I think it's a good way to locate the topic, but that is not enough. Another thing is I always ask myself "what is this article all about?" then read through it. When I read a sentence that suits to my question, then I conclude that is the main idea of the topic/paragraph.

In the selection on "Responsibility" from the book "The Road less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck, the main Idea is you must be responsible for your own self. My dad told me that "when you have problems, you can't rely on on friends forever, no one can help you except yourself." This only implies that, I must be responsible for myself, and I can be the only one to solve my own problems forever. "You are the judge, the verdict is up to you" - Astrid Alauda

Just like I've said, your responsible for your own good. Same thing implies in the selection "Responsibility" "We cannot solve problem by saying 'It's not my problem', We cannot solve problem by hoping that someone else will solve it for us. You can only solve a problem when I say 'this is my problem, it's up to me to solve it or not'." So again, your the only responsible for your self, not the others, it is just like problema mo, solusyonan mo.

BONUS:
 My responsibility for myself
As a student, we often do some stuff after class. That day after classes, me and my classmates asked me if I want to play the famous yet dangerous (when playing too much) the game of all, DotA or Defense of the Ancient. Without a doubt I automatically say a "yes" answer. we are not able to check the time and it's already 7:00 pm, we're already played almost 2 and a half hours. We paid the expenses at the shop, then we all went out. I was about to ride at the jeepney with surprise I DON"T HAVE ANY MONEY LEFT! EVEN 6 PESOS FOR THE JEEPNEY FARE! "THIS IS MADNESS!!" I said. I approach ALL of my classmates/DotAmates and ask for a 6 pesos for the jeepney fare. Everyone has a one answer: I DON'T HAVE. I almost get mad at them, "when they want something from me, I give it to them without a doubt, but when I need something to them, they will neglect me without a doubt too" I said. As expected I walked from School to my Home, YES, WALK!. Then when I came home, my parents scolded me because I arrived home late. Then I told to myself "my dad was right, your friends cannot help you forever when you're in need, only YOURSELF can." If I'm responsible to myself, then I would immediately stop playing so that I can have a money for the fare, but, I trusted to them that "they will able to give me."

Me with Reading and Writing

Reading helps us in our studies, so as a student, I must also become a reader in order to follow the lesson/s. When I read, my location varies depending on the place. Example, when I'm in school/malls, I usually read at places with tables or with comfortable place, so that I can focus more in the topic. When in home, I usually read at my room. I'm comfortable in my own little world. I usually read when our teacher gives us a topic or an article to read. I never tried to buy a book just simply because I want to read them. Sometimes I read at bookstores when I found a good book that fits in my genre. When reading the given article, I usually read it word-per-word, but, I read it as fast as I could so that it can't be my hobby to read slow. For me reading the article word-per-word.

Whenever I read a book, I always look for a book that fits at my taste (I think all of us chose book depending on their taste). But when choosing a good book, or a book that I liked, I choose a book with sequels so that I can follow the story. So, in reading books, I always choose the books with sequels. In reading books I usually don't reread unless I don't get the meaning/message of the sentence. I only reread small portion of the book for the sake of understanding it carefully. Whenever I go to bookstore at malls, I sometimes go to the Fictional part of the book (my favorite type of book) and look for the genre of the book that I want. But the only problem is, sometimes as time goes on, I lost my interest on that book, ignoring it.

After reading, let's go to writing. I never used to write poems, story or biography or what. The last time I wrote something long is I think our own speech in English class. Back then When I was in High School, our teacher asked us to create or own speech. I can't exactly remember if there are any other topics that I wrote very long. The thing I like about writing is the constructing the ideas. In order to create a very good topic is to have a great idea. Giving out a very good idea is not that easy as 1 2 3, it requires focus on the topic and understanding of the topic. I know that i'm not that good in constructing ideas, but I think writing like this helps me to practice more. Of course there are some reasons why I dislike writing. The thing I hate about writing is I'm running out of ideas. Writing a topic without any idea is a hard nut to crack.

The Ideal partner that I want to be is some kind of optimistic, critical thinker, good moral character or good attitude, understandable, faithful, talented, helpful, and last but not the list, SIMPLE. I'd rather choose to have a simple partner than a rich ones cause I believe I'm simple too.

Change for the Good

According to Daniel Whyte III "A truly educated man continues his education long after his years in high school and college. He learns until he dies." If you want to continue to learn after graduating in high school or college, you must read books, magazine, articles, newspapers, etc. in order to improve your mental capabilities and also to helps you learn with new ideas and concepts. Learning how to read is the basic foundation of learning. In order to learn a lot more one must know how to read. Also, reading helps person to have a wider vocabulary and grammar capabilities. If you want to learn more, you must do more study and reading. But, what if, some thing affects your reading habits thus making you tired, bored, stressed, or what ever you call that just by simply reading?

To be honest, I really hate reading. Reading VERY long articles, books, or any reading material makes me bored, irritated. WHY?! First reason, the book is not animated. I love watching movies rather than reading them, makes my mind tired. Next is, I have other hobbies than reading. No reason why should i stick myself to the word BORED cause when I'm bored, I can draw, watch TV, etc. And the last reason is, some words are very DEEP to understand. When reading heavy, deep, mind-blowing reading material, I can't understand some words there, makes me to become stressed  just by only thinking what is that means.

But, A man cannot live happily without reading, as a matter of fact, I want to become a reader, my hobby is drawing, arts, and also reading and studying. Just like my mom said, BALANCED. The things I want to change in my reading habits are, to become patient, and to increase concentration. why? To become patient, as I've said before, reading makes me tired, thus loosing patience to read the material. If I'm going to improve my patience, then I think it will be my hobby to read books, novels, etc. To increase Concentration. as I've said before, reading heavy, deep, mind-blowing materials gives me a lot of stress. If I'm going to concentrate in reading the article, then I think, it would be easy for me to understand the given article. Another thing to consider why I want to become a reader is because reading improves your vocabularies and grammars. I think to myself that I'm lacking at vocabularies and grammars and in order to improve it is to read English articles. Watching English movies are proven to improve your vocabularies and grammars.

As long as you can, try to read more, study more in order to increase your knowledge. Because you never know what will happen to you tomorrow. Don't do it tomorrow, don't do it later, do it, NOW.

Noble Warrior

Being a noble and great warrior is difficult. You need a lot of sacrifices in order to protect your home or what. Example, you need to leave your family in order to protect your city, you need to become courageous enough to fight the enemies, and many more. In Greek mythology, there are also a lot of noble and great warriors such as Achilles, Hector, Paris and Patroclos. Patroclos is beloved comrade and brother-in-arms of Achilles. One of Achilles best friend. Because Achilles is a great warrior, Patroclos was also a great warrior. For me, Patroclos was a skilled warrior that he will fight to the end. Here are some of  the details from Wikipedia “When the tide of war turned away from the Acheans, and the Trojans threatened their ships, Patroclus convinced Achilles to let him don Achilles' armor and lead the Myrmidons into combat. In his lust for combat, Patroclus pursued the Trojans all the way back to the gates of Troy, defying Achilles' order to break off combat once the ships were saved. Patroclus killed many Trojans and allies including the Lycian hero Sarpedon (a son of Zeus), and Cebriones (the chariot driver of Hector and illegitimate son of Priam). Patroclus was stunned by Apollo, wounded by Euphorbos, then finished off by Hector. At the time of his death, Patroclus had killed 53 enemy soldiers[1].
After retrieving his body, which had been protected on the field by Odysseus and Ajax (Telamonian Aias), Achilles returned to battle and avenged his companion's death by killing Hector. Achilles then desecrated Hector's body by dragging it behind his chariot instead of allowing the Trojans to honorably dispose of it by burning it. Achilles' grief was great and for some time, he refused to dispose of Patroclus' body; but he was persuaded to do so by an apparition of Patroclus, who told Achilles he could not enter Hades without a proper cremation. Achilles cut a lock of his hair, and sacrificed horses, dogs, and twelve Trojan captives before placing Patroclus' body on the funeral pyre.
Achilles then organized an athletic competition to honour his dead companion, which included a chariot race (won by Diomedes), boxing (won by Epeios), wrestling (a draw between Telamonian Aias and Odysseus), a foot race (won by Odysseus), a duel (a draw between Aias and Diomedes), a discus throw (won by Polypoites), an archery contest (won by Meriones), and a javelin throw (won by Agamemnon, unopposed).”
The only thing that I don’t like to Patroclos, is the lust for battle. Remember, when Patroclos convince Achilles to dons his armor,  Achilles warns Patroclos  to limit his actions only to rescuing the ship and not to attack troy because that would lead to his death (from the book). But Patroclos  does not heed his advice and attack troy and dies
Well even though Patroclos was a great warrior, because of his lust for battle, this leads him to his death.

wise and just?

The Greeks believe that their “gods and goddesses” are wise and just. That is why they implemented the 4 cardinal virtues because they believe that their gods and goddesses are wise and just,  and they wanted to be like their gods. But in the book of Iliad I saw that these Greek gods are just like bias!! For example Zeus warns the other gods that the war had carried on for far too long and that he planned to bring it to an end. He also warns other gods not to take sides with either of the Trojans or the Achaeans. That came from the mouth of Zeus himself but Zeus who is watching the fight decided to give  the day to the Trojans. Well I think that is not right? Is this book says that gods don’t fulfill their promises? A good question to ask. On the other hand, Hera who was the enemy of the Trojans, ask Poseidon to help the Achaeans but he refuses because of the superior strength of his brother Zeus. In that case, Poseidon don’t want to join a fight because he is just or because Zeus is powerful? For me, Poseidon possesses justice and he is able to do what was right. He can control himself unlike other gods. The gods in the book were not that wise. How can I say this? Because if they are wise enough then they would follow the rules of Zeus, which the superior of them all. Even  though they wanted to help either the Trojans or the Achaeans, then they will not help. That’s my stand. In terms that Greek gods are just, for me they are not just. Why? Because they have their own sides, Example a Greek citizen of Achaeans try to pray to Zeus. Because Zeus is with the Trojans, and Achaeans are his enemies, then he will not answer his/her prayers. In Greeks, if you pray to a god and the god did not respond to his/her prayers means that he/she is not ready to get the blessing or something is missing. Let us say that that citizen of Achaean is doing every thing just to answer his prayer. Would Zeus answer his prayer? Maybe, no because he is an enemy of Trojans. Is that what you call a just god?
For me justice means equality. No bias at all. And that proves to me that the gods are not that just as I expected. That’s all.

Heart Problems

Have you ever wondered why other people, even if you reminded them several times they won’t listen? Have you ever realized why some people are not contended on what they have? Then they have some “heart” problem! Not physical heart problem but the trait of their heart. Are you familiar who he is? Clue: famous person, a king of Mycenae, and finally commander of Achaeans. Do you know him? His name is Agamemnon!! Agamemnon is a king of Mycenae and the commander of Achaeans during the Trojan war. He is the man with some heart problems. Not the physical heart problems but like I said, the trait. First, his greed, not an ordinary greed of money, and food, but also women. In the book Iliad, some part there shows the greediness of Agamemnon in women. As the Achaeans raids the towns near troy, they captured two beautiful girls name Chryseis and Briseis. As Chryseis’ father came to Achaean camp to rescuce his daughter, Agamemnon refuses and rudely ask the old man to leave. In despair the old man prayed to Apollo and curses the city. It  only shows that Agamemnon is greedy when it comes to women. In addition,  Agamemnon agrees to release the girl, in condition that he gets Achilles’ girl! How greedy he is! Another one, Agamemnon tries to appease the god Apollo. He returns Chryseis to her father and sends his soldiers to capture Briseis. Surprisingly, Achilles surrenders without a fight. In our modern day, we can cite some examples similar to the problems of Agamemnon, like the kidnappers, the bad guys! The will kidnapped a kid or anyone else and they  try to contact it’s relatives and the they will ask for the ransom to free the hostage. Like Agamemnon, he try to get a ransom, and the ransom is not the money, but another woman.
Another of Agamemnon heart problems is that he cheats. As Paris and Menelaus fight for a one – on – one duel, Menelaus was able to drag Paris near the Achaean line, Aphrodite rescue Paris through a thick cloud smoke. And Agamemnon says that Menelaus unquestionably won and therefore Helen should be restored to him. the only thing that I can say is, whatever you want, you do it in good way and not try to cheat and also try not to be a greedy person just like Agamemnon. Because a close fist cannot receive a blessings but an open fist can.
